United States VS. Richard Nixon
United States v. Nixon, was a landmark Supreme Court decision. It was a unanimous 8-0 ruling falling against President Nixon and was important to the late stages of the Watergate scandal. The justices considered their decision defining the powers the U.S. president has according to the Constitution. The reason why we study this case in Civics is to prove that, NO ONE IS ABOVE THE LAW! Not even the president of the United States.
Here is your assignment for the rest of the class period for you and your group:
You will pretend that you are Richard Nixon and you will write a 30 second script. Your script can focus on a couple of different topics. On your own sheet of paper you will write it down. YOU MUST TURN IN A FINAL COPY TO THE BASKET BY THE END OF THE PERIOD WITH ALL GROUP MEMBER'S NAMES!!!!! I will be selecting the best script to do something special with it tomorrow. If you get selected, you will not only be recognized by me and your classmates, but you will be getting extra credit, so make sure its good! Remember - BE CREATIVE!
Here are some ideas to help you and your group (Your group is not limited to these ideas)...
*Nixon explains his side of the story.
*Nixon explains the outcome of the Supreme Court case.
*Nixon explains why he resigned from office.
***I also wanted to let you know that his famous phrase he said after he resigned from office was: "I'm not a crook!" This could be helpful when writing this assignment.
